Blog 4 / February

I have in the past, blogged pictures of Chef du Pont during the winter with water up to the roadside but never have I seen the causeway across the water meadows closed. This is a very wet year that keeps us at home with nothing to do outdoors except watch the pond level rise.

Mike has been talking about painting the kitchen cupboards for years and in a stir crazy moment, got cracking.  Mike is working on the kitchen whilst I am on the epic job of painting the house windows and I am very glad to blog that I have put the last set on the work table.  In the spring I will put a few  days aside to paint the front doors and the job will be done…… unfortunately I have noticed that this window painting game is a bit like the 4th bridge and I have a bad feeling that the moment I finish it will be time to start all over again.

Despite the ridiculously awful weather we have had the chance to get a bit of socialising in and have had two birthday parties to attend with a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and catch up with old friends.

Ron was 70 and we met at his and Kay’s lovely home for a wonderful buffet with a few drinks to celebrate.

William had his 92nd birthday and I just wanted to rub shoulders to get a bit of good health and wellbeing from him.
We have had friends round for lunch to brighten up the week and chat about the weather and what we are all going to get up to when the sun finally decides to show…….

It is great when the courier roles up and rings the gate bell and usually we are expecting an Amazon delivery or of the like, so when the TNT man stood at the gate and I knew we had nothing on order I got a bit suspicious and checked the label but the driver said Madam ce sont des fleur, and I knew they were for us,  and turned out to be from my Brothers and sisters.

On 14th February Mike and I celebrated our Ruby wedding anniversary. Wow, where have 40 years flown away to. There are no regrets as Mike and I have achieved everything we could ever have dreamt of and are happy to be in the place we are at right now.  We have decided to spend our anniversary on our own as a trip to the UK in the winter is difficult with old fella HOSS in tow, and the only people to spend this time with, are your siblings and old friends so we are happy to stay in and reminisce and cook our favourite meal just us two…..and HOSS the dog needless to say…..

To commemorate the day we took a photo of us in a similar pose as 40 years ago. We have swapped the high rise and bustle of Bracknell for a farm house in Normandy and for that we are delighted and content.

We are looking good for many more happy years to come, doing what we like to do with the people we like to do it with in a country we have made our own. Despite the complications of living abroad and we have found that we achieved more by it, and are proud we have, and look forward to the next episode with excitement and energy. xx
